Personally, I have overcome challenges on many levels during my life. In September of 1970 I came into this world fighting to survive. Not only was I born with pneumonia and premature, I was also born with a congenital deformity called congenital talipes equinovarus or “Club Feet”. The first 2 years of my life were spent in a cast up to my waist and a bar across my feet, used to correct my deformity. The doctors told my parents that I would have difficulty walking correctly as I became older and that sports would not be in my future. However, I went on to become a successful athlete in many different sports. I was an All Conference high school baseball player and 2 time captain of my team. In addition, I captained my prep school wrestling team and placed 3rd in the Class A New England Tournament. Shortly after graduating from the University of Connecticut earning my BS in Nutritional Sciences/Dietetics, I began to have swelling in my hands and feet. It became so bad that I almost had to leave the profession of fitness and find a new career path. I was diagnosed with a form of rheumatoid arthritis, thanks to good medical intervention, proper nutrition and exercise; I am pain free, fully functional and continue to do what I love!! Currently, I am living my dream of helping others rise above adversity and become their best!!! I still face many challenges on a day to day basis, but by trusting God and with encouragement from others, I will continue to overcome.
I did not write this to tell you how difficult my life was (many people have overcome far more difficult circumstances) I am telling you my story to encourage you to overcome the adversity in your life.
No matter what your goals are, don't let any person or circumstance get in the way of achieving your goals.
